Futureproofing homes and lowering bill

Decarbonising new homes is no longer optional:

The UK housing sector is undergoing a major transformation. From Part L and the Future Homes Standard to escalating energy prices and customer demand for greener living, new build developers face a perfect storm of regulatory and market pressures.

To meet these expectations and remain competitive, housebuilders are increasingly turning to on-site renewables like solar PV to reduce the carbon footprint of their developments, support compliance, and deliver real value to homeowners.

Solar is no longer just a ‘nice to have’, it’s a commercial, environmental and legislative asset.

New build developers gain competitive advantages from installing Solar PV as they are providing cost savings for customers on their energy bills. As energy bills become more and more expensive, customers may choose their new homes on the basis of energy efficiency and low ongoing energy costs, both of which are provided in a new build home with Solar PV installed.

The project: delivering solar pv across 16 live new build sites

Carbon3 partnered with one of the UK’s largest residential developers, to design, install, and maintain solar PV systems on 576 new build homes across 16 developments nationwide.

Total installed capacity: 1,195.75 kW
Project completed on time and prior to occupancy
Minimal disruption to the developer’s build programme
From initial design to post-handover maintenance, Carbon3 provided a full turnkey solution. Our in-house engineers and dedicated site teams worked alongside the client’s construction teams to integrate the systems seamlessly into the build process.

Each system is equipped with remote monitoring and smart meters, allowing Carbon3 to track performance in real time and respond quickly to any drop in output which minimises disruption for residents and eliminates the need for intrusive site visits outside of annual check-ups.

The strategy behind the spec:

This client’s approach reflects a shift happening across the UK’s housebuilding sector. Solar PV is about:

  • Enhancing buyer appeal through lower energy bills
  • Meeting net zero and Future Homes Standard compliance
  • Demonstrating ESG leadership to investors and stakeholders
  • Reducing warranty risks by working with one partner for design, install, and ongoing maintenance

As homebuyers become more energy-conscious, features like solar PV can become a point of differentiation in competitive regional markets, especially when paired with battery storage or EV charging infrastructure.

What this means for other developers:

Carbon3’s work with this housebuilder shows how solar PV can be delivered at scale, without impacting build programmes or sales timelines. Our team understands the sequencing, technical, and H&S demands of multi-phase construction environments, and our install-first, maintain-long-term approach means systems continue to perform long after handover.
