Logistics & Manufacturing.

Use your expansive roofs to save money with a commercial solar panel installation.

Compound with battery storage to lower costs further and increase energy independence. Use EV chargers to lower your electric fleet costs.
Carbon3 assists logistics and manufacturing businesses with designing, installing, and maintaining large-scale renewable energy installations. We can support you with funding your project, providing competitive power purchase agreement (PPA) rates through our partners.
Commercial solar panels reducing energy costs at a warehouse

Reduce Costs.

It’s a challenging time to make a profit as a logistics or manufacturing business. Costs are increasing across the board, and commercial electricity bill standing charges are expected to almost double this year due to a change in Transmission Network Use of System (TNUoS) charges.
Protect your business against price rises by making use of your unused roof spaces with a large scale solar installation. Your solar installation will provide you with free electricity, fixing your energy costs for 25-30 years, and providing typical payback times of between 3 and 5 years.
Solar panels are at their lowest price and highest efficiencies since their conception, so now is the time to invest for long term gains.
Got leftover solar electricity? Export it for money back through the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) scheme.
Commercial building using solar energy to improve EPC rating

Avoid Penalties.

While there is no legal penalty yet, the industry is expected to comply with MEES (Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards) EPC B target across commercial buildings before 2030.
You can future-proof your commercial buildings by installing renewable technologies before penalties are announced, avoiding the cost increase that comes with last-minute retrofits.
Solar panels installed under a power purchase agreement on a warehouse

Install with no upfront costs.

Power purchase agreements (PPAs) are a way to benefit from a solar installation without upfront capex. If you are eligible, through our partner we will install and maintain a solar array on your roof. You’ll be able to purchase the electricity produced at a competitive rate, lower than grid rates.
You also won’t have the hassle of insuring or maintaining your solar with a PPA, and you won’t have commercial solar debt on your balance sheet.

Power your future with EV Chargers.

Keep your electric fleet on the road with solar carports. Solar carports use solar panels to charge electric vehicles with clean and free energy. Pass these savings on to your staff or charge the public for use, creating an additional revenue stream.
Government schemes such as the Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) and EV Infrastructure Grant for Staff and Fleets provide your small to medium sized business grants for EV installations, offsetting your costs.
You’ll also stay ahead of the government’s 2030 target for phasing out the sales of new non-electric vehicles.

Avoid blackouts.

Battery storage solutions save your solar produced energy for when you need it most, avoiding peak tariffs or relying on grid power after the sun sets. You’ll benefit from energy independence from the grid, as well as emergency backup power if the grid goes down, so you can work around the clock even when your competitors can’t.
Keep your money in your pocket by making use of peak shaving to avoid demand charges and load shifting to avoid peak costs.

Support for Leaseholders & Landlords.

Landlords and leaseholders both benefit from renewable energy. Landlords get a more marketable property with a higher EPC rating, and leaseholders enjoy cheaper energy.
For landlords and leaseholders, we can conduct surveys on the buildings, and provide quotes for installation. We’ll work with both landlord and leaseholder to find the best funding solution that balances your relationship and cash flow, whether this be a tenant PPA or hire purchase.

For leaseholders that want to make the case to their landlord for installation, we can provide clear data on savings, payback periods, EPC increases and CO2 reduction, as well as warranties and maintenance information. See our commercial leaseholder guide for more information.

O&M monitoring commercial solar and battery systems

Maximise the efficiency of your installs.

With our competitive operations and maintenance (O&M) packages, we can look after your panels, battery storage, and EV chargers.
By monitoring your installations, we’ll provide regular data for your ESG reports, and our annual service will keep them in tip-top shape. If there is a fault, we will send someone to fix it quickly. Due to our close relationships with our manufacturers, we can escalate your warranty claims promptly if needed.

    Frequently Asked Questions.

If you can’t find the answers you need here, please contact our friendly team contact us.
Is my warehouse or industrial facility suitable for solar panel installation?
Usually yes; large, flat, unobstructed roof spaces typical of logistics and manufacturing sites are ideal for solar PV. We’ll carry out a structural survey and shading analysis to confirm.
What structural or roof modifications might I need to make before installation?
If the roof shows signs of age, damage or is structurally weak, you may need repairs or reinforcement prior to installing panels. We work closely with the biggest roofing contractors in the UK, so we can arrange this for you and install the solar PV at the same time.
How much roof space (or what size system) will I need to make it worthwhile?
It all depends on your energy consumption and roof size/orientation. We can show you what your projected ROI would look like.
Will installation disrupt our operations or production?
With proper staging and planning, disruption can be minimised. We have experience working in this industry, so we can coordinate to fit around operations and logistics schedules.
What financial returns and pay-back periods can I expect?
Pay-back periods of 2-5 years are common for large commercial warehouse PV systems, but it all depends on your system size and energy consumption – the more you use, the better return you will get.
Are any grants, tax incentives or funding models available?
Yes. Warehouses can benefit from capital allowances, asset-finance, PPAs and other models to reduce upfront costs and get your projects off the ground. Find more information on our funding page.
What happens if our energy usage is mostly outside peak solar hours, or we have high evening/night demand?
For the best benefit here, pairing solar PV with battery storage will help capture excess daytime generation for use later (or support fleet charging/backup).
What about grid connection, export, and selling excess energy?
While the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) is no longer available for new systems, you can export using the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG). However, for larger industrial installations you may need DNO approvals and connection capacity checks. We can carry these out on your behalf.
How long will the system last, and what maintenance is required?
Solar installations are low-maintenance. Quality systems can operate for 30 years. Regular monitoring and periodic maintenance will help sustain performance. At Carbon3 we offer O&M and monitoring packages to keep your system up and running, with some of the fastest response times in the industry.
What are the non-financial benefits we can expect for our manufacturing/logistics business?
Beyond cost savings, you can benefit from increased energy independence/security, stronger ESG credentials, reduced carbon footprint, enhanced market reputation and possible tenant value uplift for property portfolios. You’ll also be ahead of the game for the incoming EPC regulations requiring EPC C by 2027 and EPC B by 2030.
