When a forward-thinking building consultancy approached Carbon3, they were looking for more than just an installer. Their sustainability consultant needed a delivery partner who could translate complex renewable energy systems into practical, cost-effective solutions. They needed a company that would help them win over a risk-averse commercial client with data and expertise.
The challenge:
The project was led by a sustainability consultant who understood the technical and environmental benefits of solar and battery installations. But they were facing a familiar challenge: how to persuade a commercially-focused client to invest beyond the minimum legal requirement.
Changing regulations, tight timelines and stakeholder scepticism led to multiple pressures. The client was open to sustainability in principle, but only if the solution was demonstrably low risk. They needed a cost-effective and simple solution that wouldn’t cause issues later on.
Meanwhile, the consultant needed to remain billable, meet internal deadlines, and protect their own reputation in a competitive field where successful delivery could make or break a career.
The solution:
Carbon3 was brought in to provide a everything from initial feasibility through to design, installation and performance modelling.
We began by working closely with the consultant to understand both the technical constraints of the site and the internal dynamics at play.
Our design team produced detailed yet accessible modelling, illustrating projected generation, storage capacity and payback period. By breaking the data down into simple formats, we helped the consultant to present a compelling business case to their client. The business case focused on real financial and operational benefits.
The chosen solution included a 25.11 kW ground-mounted solar PV array and a 23 kW battery storage system. This setup enabled the client to maximise use of self-generated energy, reduce grid reliance, and improve the long-term resilience of their site.
The outcome:
The system now offsets 5,449 kg of CO₂ every year, providing the end client with a clear, quantifiable step towards their net zero targets. With battery support, the site can store excess generation for use during peak times. This lowers bills, and delivers a visible return on investment.
For the sustainability consultant, the project met their technical ambitions, strengthened their relationship with a key client, and gave them a credible success story they could use to build influence within their firm and beyond.
They were able to maintain focus on their advisory role while Carbon3 handled every technical and logistical detail. We provided a compliant and high-performing energy system, delivered on time.
Why it worked:
At Carbon3, we understand that for many sustainability consultants, the biggest challenge isn’t finding the right solution, it’s getting clients to adopt it. That takes data, confidence, and a delivery partner who can take the heat out of technical discussions while keeping projects on track.
