Carbon3 completed a multi-site solar PV and battery rollout across 10 social housing blocks in London. This was supporting the local council’s ambitions to reach net zero while delivering long-term cost and carbon savings for 299 homes.

As part of the installation, we worked alongside our trusted roofing partner to complete remedial roof works at the same time. We made sure to keep the structural integrity of each roof and maintain warranty protection for years to come.

This smart, coordinated approach helped the council avoid the cost and disruption of multiple scaffolding visits while delivering real progress against their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) objectives.

Site solar capacity breakdown:

  • Ash House: 27.135kW
  • Birch House: 45kW
  • Cherry Tree House: 4.05kW
  • Elm House: 29.16kW
  • Fir House: 8.91kW
  • Holly House: 21.06kW
  • Larch House: 16.2kW
  • Oak House: 16.2kW
  • Pine House: 34.02kW
  • Willow House: 3.645kW

Helping the council meet net zero targets

The UK Government has set legally binding targets to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Many local authorities, like this client, are aiming to go further and faster. For social landlords and public sector housing providers, tackling the energy performance of their stock is one of the most effective ways to make progress.

This project delivers a combined CO₂ saving of over 44.5 tonnes per year, contributing meaningfully to the council’s ESG goals while also reducing reliance on the national grid.

Energy storage included

Battery storage systems were installed alongside the solar arrays to maximise the benefit of on-site generation. These batteries allow each block to store excess energy generated during the day and use it later when demand is higher. This will improve efficiency and reducing grid dependence during peak periods.

Roof works delivered alongside solar

Installing solar is the perfect time to consider roof condition. On this project, we worked with our specialist roofing partner to complete remedial works on all 10 blocks during the same programme.

This approach meant:

  • No need for scaffolding twice. This means residents are only disturbed by scaffolding once, and saves the council time and costs.
  • All roof works were coordinated with the solar system layout and mounting, with advice from our roofing partner to keep warranties intact.

By offering solar and roof services in one coordinated programme, we helped the council get more value from their budget while reducing disruption to residents.

Commissioning

Carbon3 managed the entire process from design to installation and final commissioning. This approach ensures that each block is fully operational and ready to generate clean, low-cost electricity. Our team provided clear handover documentation and monitoring tools to allow ongoing performance tracking.

Long-term impact

This project demonstrates how public sector housing providers can combine decarbonisation with building improvement works to maximise value and support local and national environmental targets. By thinking strategically and coordinating roofing, solar, and battery works, this council avoided unnecessary repeat work and benefitted from major carbon savings in a single rollout.
